Updated Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, 3:05 p.m. EST: The death toll has now risen to four victims in a shooting in Northern California. It was also confirmed that the shooter was killed by police, bringing the total death count to five.
The gunman went on a violent rampage that began at a home and spanned some seven separate locations, including an elementary school.
NPR reports that at least two children were wounded, one of them a student at Rancho Tehama Elementary. The other child was injured in a truck along the road, Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston notes. The woman driving the truck was also shot. All three victims are currently being treated for their injuries.
Johnston told reporters that it seemed as if the gunman was “randomly picking targets.”
The gunman, who has not yet been identified, was involved in a “domestic violence incident” that was reported by neighbors before the shooting.
Johnston said that a “semi-automatic rifle and two handguns” were retrieved from the shooting scene.
“It’s a very sad day for us here in Tehama County,” the assistant sheriff added.

At least three people are dead and several others are injured after a shooter in Northern California went on a rampage that began at a local home before spreading out to “multiple locations,” including an elementary school.
According to NPR, students at Rancho Tehama Elementary School in Tehama County were among those injured in the incident. Multiple students had to be medically evacuated off the premises, Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston told Action News.
“I know of at least three deaths,” Johnston said.
An official at the Enloe Medical Center in Chico, Calif., confirmed to CBS Sacramento that the hospital received four patients: one adult and three children.
Johnston says that the shooter is believed to have been killed by police.
Shots began at the school around 8 a.m., according to KCRA-TV.
More than 100 law-enforcement officials are investigating at least five scenes in and around the school.
