Ray Lewis, the shucker and jiver who admitted he told his team not to hire Colin Kaepernick; the man who condemned the entire NFL national anthem protests; the dunderhead who loudly proclaimed that “All lives matter”; the Pro-Bowl stepper and Hall of Fame-level fetcher of “it”; Ray muthafucking Lewis, who couldn’t wait to bury his tongue in the spray-tanned anus of Donald Trump—wait for it ...
Ray Lewis knelt during the national anthem Sunday.
During the national anthem, before the Baltimore Ravens played the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday morning, Lewis joined his former teammates on the sidelines and knelt in protest. For real, bruh. I know I’m not watching the NFL, but USA Today is reporting this!
I know you remember when Lewis blasted Black Lives Matter for black-on-black crime even though he made his own alleged crimes disappear. I know you remember how he waltzed into Trump Tower to make friends with the Half-Wit Hitler immediately after Donald Trump took office. I know you recall how Lewis said he doesn’t agree with Colin Kaepernick’s “method of protest.” I know you remember how he shat upon the entire Black Lives Matter movement.
Well, apparently he’s had a change of heart.
To understand the newsworthiness of this, one must remember that during the Baltimore Ravens’ training camp, before #BlackOutNFL was a thing, the Ravens were considering hiring Kaepernick as a backup quarterback. According to Lewis, the owner called him to ask his opinion. Here is an excerpt from Ray Lewis on Inside the NFL explaining how he ultimately helped (or at least didn’t fight) the NFL owners’ blackballing of Colin Kaepernick:
Ray Lewis: “When me and Steve Bisciotti were talking, this is what we were talking about, Judy. We were talking about giving this kid an opportunity to get back in the National Football League. Look, this is what I wanted to share with people. I have been fighting for this kid behind the table like nobody has ... I’ve never been against Colin Kaepernick. But I am against the way he’s done it.
“Then, his girl [Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend] goes out and put out this racist gesture and doesn’t know we are in the back office about to try to get this guy signed. Steve Bisciotti has said it himself, ‘How can you crucify Ray Lewis when Ray Lewis is the one calling for Colin Kaepernick?’ ...
“When they (Ravens) called me, it was to say, ‘Yes or no?’ ... We were going to close the deal to sign him ... Steve Bisciotti said, ‘I want to hear Colin Kaeperkick speak to let me know that he wants to play football.’ ... And it never happens because that picture comes up the next day. “
[Judy] Battista: “So, if not for that ... tweet, you think he would be a Baltimore Raven?”
Lewis: “Then he’s flying him to Baltimore. I am sitting with all three of them and we are all having a conversation about bringing Colin Kaepernick in.”
To be fair, on Monday, Lewis could give all kinds of excuses as to why he knelt, and tap-dance his way out of controversy like he did when he and his friends piled into a limo and made his clothes and all of the evidence disappear in the stabbing death of 21-year-old Jacinth Baker.
He could call up his homeboy Donald Trump and say that his feet were tired, or that he was momentarily overcome by the need to pray (because he kinda does look like he’s recovering from a Holy Ghost faint), or that he was simply showing his ex-teammates how he fellated the commander in chief when he paid a visit to him at Trump Towers.
Or maybe, like he has always been, Ray Lewis is trying to shuffle his way to the right side of approval and respectability. After all, if there’s one thing we know about Ray Lewis, it’s that he knows how to bend his knees.
