Bill Cosby did not take the stand Monday, and his defense closed their case after only six minutes, with testimony from one person, Detective Richard Schaffer. Schaffer said that Cosby’s accuser in the case, Andrea Constand, visited Cosby after the alleged sexual assault, according to CNN.
Cosby’s defense attempted to convince jurors, quite fast, that Constand and Cosby were lovers and that the encounter was consensual. It was rumored that Cosby would testify Monday morning, but the comedian issued a sworn statement to Judge Steven O’Neill that he did not plan to testify in his own defense.
Cosby is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting Constand in 2004. Prosecutors will give their closing argument Monday afternoon, and the jury will begin deliberations as soon as Monday evening.
