Miss Tina Fey took no tea for the fever when it came to calling out her sistren—specifically white, college-educated women who voted for Donald Trump and gave him the presidency.
“A lot of this election was turned by white, college-educated women who now would like to forget about this election and go back to watching HGTV,” the writer and comedian said during a Facebook Live fundraiser for the American Civil Liberties Union. “You can’t look away, because it doesn’t affect you this minute, but it’s going to affect you eventually.”
Fey made the comments during a panel discussion with Donna Lieberman, executive director of the ACLU in New York, and Louise Melling, the ACLU’s deputy legal director on Friday.
Fey added at the end of the chat: “I personally would like to make my own pledge to college-educated white women to not look away, not pretend that things that are happening now won’t eventually affect me if we don’t put a stop to it,” she said.
The Washington Post reports that 61 percent of white women without a college degree supported Trump, while only 34 percent voted for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. The surprise, though, was that a bare majority of college-educated white women went for Clinton (52 percent), while 45 percent cast their votes for Trump, who was caught on tape during the campaign talking about “grab ’em by the pussy,” as well as calling various women pigs and slobs and saying that they have “blood coming out of their wherever.”
The candidate who aspired to be the first female president of the United States needed more of the white, college-educated female demographic to put her over the top. And many black women were furious that white women—our supposed sisters in the struggle—screwed us all.
The Post reports that white women as a whole have supported Republican presidential candidates since Richard Nixon. In 2012, 56 percent of white women voted for Mitt Romney, while 42 percent supported Barack Obama. The only exceptions were 1992 and 1996, the two times Bill Clinton won the presidency (guess they liked the husband but not the wife?).
This is proof positive that just as anti-blackness can come from black folk, anti-woman-ness can come from those with pussies.
