A 14-year-old boy will be tried as an adult in the murder of his mother, according to the Associated Press.

Joshua Smith of Detroit has been charged with an adult charge of first-degree murder and using a firearm during a felony. Joshua shot his mother, Tamiko Robinson, following an argument. When asked why he shot her, Joshua said that he was "tired of being called names."

A shotgun belonging to the boy's stepfather was used in the murder. Joshua's younger sister and stepfather were in the house at the time of the shooting, according to My Fox Detroit.

"His mother was real sick, and she called him every time she needed something, and he was tired of that," explained LeShaun Roberts, the victim's brother, to My Fox Detroit. Joshua was in ROTC and on the swim team, but apparently he was also trying to get into a gang and dabbled in drugs.

"Once he found out how weak his mother was, he continued to do things that he [knew] she wouldn't allow him to do," Roberts said.
