Men can’t be great when they gotta be great, but Lizzo has stepped into her greatness just in time!
That’s right, Lizzo’s hit song “Truth Hurts” has landed at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100! Lizzo’s first No. 1 song!
The jubilant rapper-singer replaced Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, who previously held the top spot with their earworm, “Senorita.”
In fact, Lizzo originally released “Truth Hurts” on Sept. 19, 2017. That means her accomplishment is almost two years to the day of the song’s first release. The timely rerelease became a breakout moment for Lizzo, which is very reminiscent of Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up.”
Talk about divine order—can I get an “amen?!”
It’s been a battle for the music crown since Lil Nas X’s record-breaking “Old Town Road” eventually stepped down from the throne. This week clearly belongs to Lizzo.
As Forbes reports:
“Truth Hurts” is now the third song in a row to step up to the throne in the past three weeks, which is in stark contrast to the 19-frame-long rule of “Old Town Road” that just ended recently. It seems now that the country-trap tune has finally dipped from the highest spot on the list, Americans are happy to change things up and allow several cuts to claim the top spot.
Lizzo’s breakout hit has been slowly climbing the Hot 100 for months now, and she has done a spectacular job at keeping the momentum up by nailing several high-profile live performances, including recently at the MTV Video Music Awards, where her time on the stage was considered the best of the evening by many.
Here’s to Lizzo continuing her climb into success and being reminded that living in her truth actually feels pretty damn dope.
