T.I. was set to perform at New York City’s Irving Plaza Wednesday night but never made it to the stage because a fight broke out in a crowded VIP room and several shots were fired. During the melee, one man was killed and several other people, including rapper Troy Ave, were injured, the New York Daily News reports.

According to the Daily News, while hip-hop artists Maino and Uncle Murda were performing, gunshots sent concertgoers running for their lives.

“People were running and stomping over one another,” said Rodney Molina, 37.

“It was real loud, like it was in my ear,” said Kirk Elphage, 41, of Harlem. “People were using each other for shields. It was unbelievable.”

The shooter has not been apprehended, and witnesses at the event who were in the VIP room say it all started because someone was pushed.

The man who died was 33 years old and had been shot in the chest. Among the injured were a 34-year-old man who was shot in the chest, a 26-year-old woman who suffered a gunshot wound to her leg and, according to a Daily News source, Troy Ave, who was also shot in the leg.
