A Northern California man arrested during a police gang sweep was all the rage on social media Thursday after his mug shot was posted to the Stockton Police Department's Facebook Page.
"How much is his bail?" wrote one woman on the photo's Facebook comments.
"Probation/parole at my house," wrote another.
Jeremy Meeks, 30, was taken into custody and booked on five felony weapons charges and one gang charge, but that is apparently inconsequential, given his smoldering good looks. Ladies of the Internet didn't care that he was arrested as part of "Operation Ceasefire, a multiagency mission to curb a recent increase in shootings and robberies in the Weston Ranch area of Stockton," the Associated Press reports. They were too busy dreaming up their lives together with Meeks, assuming that he can post the $900,000 bail that has been set.
"I have handcuffs ;)" wrote one Facebook commenter.
"I volunteer for cell mate," said another.
"Is it illegal to be that sexy?"
By late Thursday, Meeks' mug shot had gained some 33,000 "likes" and 10,400 comments and had been shared more than 3,300 times, drawing praise for his high cheekbones and blue eyes. Officer Joseph Silva, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department, told AP that no arrest photo has ever garnered this much attention. "I have not seen that many likes for a photo before," he said.
Silva told AP that Meeks is "one of the most violent criminals in the Stockton area," though he didn't tell AP exactly what Meeks is believed to be involved in.
According to AP, Meeks is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon.
